Let's download a sample war file from https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-8.0-doc/appdev/sample/.
As the document recommends, we may want to put it into CATALINA_BASE/webapps directory.

Note that we mapped the host port (8787) to the Tomcat container port (8080) and mounte a volume from the host to the container via the -v flag. By using volumes, changing the local code will affect the container and it'll have updated code.

Using Dockerfile
We get the same result if we use Dockerfile like this which runs "catalina.sh":
